Zebra Redo

Are any of you like me? You finish something and you like it but you just think it needs a little more umph but you're not sure what that umph is?  Well, I think I might have found it....at least with my Zebra Coffee Table.  Don't get me wrong, I really liked it with just the black and white but it just didn't seem finished...even after I had finished it.  Soooooo....I took a leap of faith knowing that I might ruin it but that was the chance I was willing to take and I  stained it.  Ahhhh!  It scared me to death. (So dramatic I know, it's just a table. Sheesh.) I put some Minwax Dark walnut stain on and as soon as I wiped it off, I almost cried.  Not a good cry.  My daughter said, "Mom, what are you doing?"  I told her that I thought I was ruining my table.  Still I trudged on .  I was gonna have to fix it anyway so I might as well do the whole thing and see what I thought when it was done.  As I was doing it BOTH my son and daughter said, "WOW mom, that looks awesome!"  Now, I love my kids and yes they know alot about what's awesome but sometimes what they think is awesome is not so awesome, ya know what I mean?  BUT I think in this case they may be right.  I'm a little nervous to show it to ya'll since there were a lot who really liked it with out the stain.  Let me run to Albertson's and get brave. Maybe I'll come back and post a picture.  Maybe. :/
I'm back.  My belly is full so now I'm brave.  Here it is:

Sorry, bad lighting. I think the stain gives it a more authentic look instead of an 'I was just freshly painted' look.  Now it seems older and weathered which is what I like.

This is before I stained it:
I really liked the white and black but the white was kind of glaring.  The stain makes it easier to look at.  I like it...hope you do too!  :)

LOVE it! I think the stain makes it just perfect. So unique. Like the 2nd round better than the first. :)

I really like it :) In general with black and white zebra stripes I tend to go toward the creamier/brownish background instead of the stark black and white. I think it looks more realistic :) and it's just not so stark..:) Love it :)What's funny is that I had been thinking of doing the same thing but with modge podge and zebra fabric on my coffee table. I decided it be too much for me though as I already have prints elsewhere and just enough going on for my taste :)

Glad you went with your gut on that one! The stain definitely adds that something extra And I am IM-PRESSED (well, I'm impressed anyway) if you painted the zebra freehand. I am graphically challenged. As your newest follower, I'd love it if you linked this up to T.G.I.F. (Thank God I'm Finished) Friday at RummageLiving happening RIGHT NOW! http://www.rummageliving.com/2011/09/t-g-i-f-thank-god-im-finished-link-party/
