Antique Dresser

Antique Dresser with mirror.....all dressed up in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.  I had to try the ASCP and now I'm in love. It lived up to all my expectations and everything anyone has ever said about it is true. It's. AMAZING.  Too bad it costs a bazillion dollars or I would get it in every color.  I bought this dresser off CL and it was in need of a lot of repair.  Good thing I'm handy with the wood glue, clamps, wood filler and power tools.  I love fixing things that someone else has given up on.  Here she is before:

Yikes! Piece of wood missing....that's gonna cost a lot to fix!  Or is it?!

The top is stained in Minwax Dark Walnut...so are the knobs.

I Mod Podged some pages from the Bicentennial Almanac inside the drawers. The pages have really neat information about historical dates and pictures. It's always nice to have a little history in your antique dresser. *wink wink*...I'm so clever....haha!

I'm Still Here!

Hi. It's me.  I'm still here.  About a week ago my computer started being reeeaaaalllyy  slow.  I haven't been able to upload pictures and now my modem is down. Ugh.  I won't have a new one till Friday. Boo. I have finished 2 dressers this past week. One is an antique and the other a French Provencial....I love them both. Wish you could see them.  Soon.  Very soon...I hope.  Sad face.  Till next time......

Table Makeover

I bought this great table off from Craigslist about 4 months ago.  I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it so it served as my craft table.  That was until now.  It's made of all wood and it's in PERFECT condition.  It's a fantastic table and if I had a place for it, (other than a craft table) I would keep it.

Now it's a beautiful Duck Egg Blue and lightly distressed.  Love her!

She's very versatile.  Could be used as a dinner table, sofa table of entry way table.  I think she's fabulous!

Treasures Part Two

Well hello there!

Isn't he handsome?  His luscious locks blowing in the breeze.  His thick beard....just makes me want to twist my fingers up in it. Now that's a man.  I've named him Josh after my husband.  Though my husband shaves his head, I imagine that this is what it would look like if he grew it out because his hair is so thick.  He does sport a pretty thick beard.  It's not that long and curly but it's thick....and really it's just an over grown go tee.  He only shaves once every 2 or 3 weeks.  He's a hairy beast of a man!  Seriously, who gives this hunk away?!  Yes, he's chipped but I'll fix that. Every good man has his flaws.

On to my next treasure.  Check out this metal trunk.  I love trunks!!! 

It has this metal decal on top that says it's from Boston Massachusetts.  1946. Awesome!

I like me some trunks!

It's in excellent condition, dirty but well built.

Ha ha! Love it!  Have I already said that? :)

Treasures!

I've always wanted an American Family Scale but never came across one that was 'the one'.  But I found this little beauty on ebay....that might be a new addiction of my...ssshhhh....don't tell the hubs!  I also like the apothocary jar.  The brown is so nostalgic....reminds me of my grandma.

I was lucky enough to be at my local thrift store when these pretty ladies were brought out.  I'm sure my eyes popped out of my head when I saw the worker walking out of the back with them!

Last but definitely not least, I found this at the flea market I did last Saturday.  A lady by me was having a yard sale and she came over to see if I wanted them. Um, yeah!  I told her "sold" but then had to back track.  I knew if my husband showed up to pick me and my stuff up and I hadn't sold anything but actually bought something he was gonna kill me.  So I told her I would take them at the end of the day if I sold something and she still had them.  I did, and she did!

Dresser Revive

Check out this old antique dresser.  There is a lady that lives by me that was going to throw it away.  The drawers are in EXCELLENT condition but the rest of it, not so much.  It's chippy, peeling, pieces of the legs were missing....it was in need of a lot of intensive care.  I did a ton of gluing and clamping. A TON.

Then I sanded her down really good making sure not to chip off more than was already off.

I dry brushed her with some granite grey, painted on this beautiful stencil and then stained the whole thing with some Min wax dark walnut.  

I think it turned out perfect!

The mirror that is leaning up next to her goes on top.  It's a gorgeous piece and unfortunately this is the only picture that I took of here.  I was in such a rush getting ready for the Market this past Saturday that I didn't get any others taken. :/   I made it as large as I could so it might be overlapping on the sides of my blog.  You can click on the picture for a closer look.   Hope you like her!    *Oh and she's already sold!

Salvaged Armoire

Here is an armoire that I picked up a few weeks ago.  It was in really bad shape. It was really shaky, we couldn't get the drawers out and the doors were crooked.  Plus they didn't shut all the way

I put my husband to work on her and he did an excellent job making her sturdy again.  He had to remove and replace the back. He then built in some shelves and a hanging bar.  I painted it grey and glazed it with some Navajo white.  I really like but it's for sale!

She's really cute inside too!

She has a new life now!

Repurposed Cabinet Doors

My in laws are remodeling their kitchen.  Of course I asked for anything and everything that they were going to throw out or give away.  I asked and I received.  I got several  cabinet doors from them.  They are keeping the bases but replacing the doors.  Hmmmmm....what to do, what to do.  I KNOW!

I removed the hinges, painted the middle with chalk board paint and then a cute color on the frame and TA DA!

(The doors above are not the same size as the doors below. I painted the smaller doors first and that's what I got the pictures of but you get it right? Same doors just different size.)

But that's not all.  It's a sandwich board!  I connected two of the same size doors together with some hinges and now it can go on a table where you can see both sides. Or two kids can write or draw at the same time.  I wrapped a ribbon around the two hinges and tied it in the middle so they are covered. I realize I didn't write anything on it but if I had, one side would have said, "Menu:  BBQ Sandwich and french fries!"  Then the other side would have said, "KITCHEN'S CLOSED!"   I don't love to cook so I would probably keep this saying for a while.  :) 

I connected each of the bottom corners with some ribbon so when it's opened it stops at a certain point.  I attached the ribbon with cute thumb tacks.  Sorry no close up pick.  I swear someday I will read my camera manual so I can be fancy. :)

Sew New!

I picked up this cute little sewing machine table a few weeks ago.  I love her legs.   She didn't have the sewing machine inside anymore but there were still cords and other stuff hanging in there.  The bottom was just a flimsy curved board.   

 So I painted and stencilled her and took her to the Vintage Market.  There were plenty of people that looked at her, a few seemed to be seriously interested but then they would open the top (because the top opens up from the right to the left)  and see that there was just junk inside.  I don't know what I was thinking when I decided to leave her insides intact.....maybe I thought that someone might be brave enough to put their own sewing machine inside and make it functional in some way. 

There's also that cute little handle in  the front that opens up that door (it's not a drawer) but it just opened up to a piece of wood with a hole in it.  Not sure what it was there for but it wasn't for storage and that's what people assumed it was.

The gaping hole and junk inside turned people off.  They were expecting to be able to put stuff inside. SO, I put my super hunky handy man to work and he pulled out all her guts, cut out the board that was on the other side of the door to no where and then nailed in a bottom.....so now it's functional!

It's hard to see inside since it's black. There is still however a small hole in the back for a cord.  I hope that doesn't discourage a buyer. :/

I think she's adorable!  She'll be at the Thieves Flea Market in Cave Creek tomorrow!
