Antique Telephone Table

Last Saturday I went to a flea market and found this sweet little antique telephone table.  There was a long line ahead of me when the flea market opened and I was amazed that it was still sitting there when I found it.  I love it!  I'm gonna recover the seat but I need your help by answering a question.  Do you think that if I PAINT this it will decrease it's value?  Or should I just re-stain it and recover the seat?   It needs a little love so I'm going to sand it anyway. I just don't want to ruin it.  So PLEASE let me know what you think!  I would appreciate it!

OOO, I have been looking EVERYwhere for one of these vintage telephone tables, which, by the way, is called a gossip bench..isn't that cool.

OK, PLEASE go to

and I PROMISE you will know what you want to do with this piece when you see THIS. It is so beautiful, you won't question if you should paint or not. :)

I love all this McKelle! Who knew you had all this talent hidden behind those vb skills! So creative and I'm only a tad jealous of it! Oh and I think you should leave it brown and recover the seat...but I don't have as good of an eye as you!

I love these old tables. My mom has my grandma's in her basement and I started to sand it in HS to refinish it. Still there, half sanded..lol. I should have taken it home with me when I was up there. They are such a fun conversation piece. I think you should restain it but maybe distress it a bit, or whatever it is called. and definitely recover the seat. Can't wait to see how it turns out!
